Berlin Wall Sites Near Grenzturm Nieder Neuendorf

One of the last surviving Berlin Wall watchtowers, this Führungsstelle (command post) was built in 1987 as the command centre of Border Security Regiment 38 "Clara Zetkin". From here, officers oversaw a stretch of the Havel river border between West Berlin and East Germany, coordinating 18 regular watchtowers. The tower also contained an arrest cell for captured escapees. Since 1999 it houses a museum documenting the border regime and its impact on the Hennigsdorf region.
