Lichtenrade-Mahlow Grenzweg

Memorial   Mahlower Grenzgraben, 12307 Berlin

The Lichtenrade-Mahlow Grenzweg follows the former border along Berlin’s southern boundary, where a preserved Kolonnenweg patrol road with original GDR lamp posts traces the path of the Wall through what is now a peaceful residential area.

This section of the Berlin Wall Trail runs along the Mahlower Grenzgraben, a drainage ditch that marked the border between the West Berlin district of Tempelhof-Schoneberg and the GDR town of Mahlow. The Kolonnenweg (column road) is the original concrete-slab patrol road used by border guards, preserved in its original condition.

A memorial erected in 2009 commemorates Eduard Wroblewski, a border victim. The GDR lamp posts that once illuminated the death strip still stand along the path, offering a tangible connection to the border’s operational infrastructure.

The trail section is popular with walkers and cyclists, winding through a landscape where the scars of division are gradually fading but remain visible to those who know where to look.
