Original Berlin Wall Segments Go on Show in Kansas City

12 Aug , 2026

The international touring exhibition The Berlin Wall. A World Divided opened at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri on 29 May 2026 and runs until 13 December 2026. It is the show’s North American premiere, and the largest presentation of this material the United States has seen.

On display are more than 200 original objects, among them original segments of the Berlin Wall, alongside personal belongings, escape equipment and everyday things from the divided city. The exhibition was produced by the Spanish exhibition company Musealia together with the Berlin Wall Foundation, the same partnership behind earlier stops in Madrid, Paris and Barcelona. The Foundation’s director, Prof. Dr. Axel Klausmeier, attended the Kansas City opening.

If you cannot get to Berlin this year

For readers in North America this is the closest thing to the real material without a transatlantic flight: the segments on show are genuine, not casts, and they come with the objects and biographies that give them a context most souvenir fragments lack.

Union Station is at 30 West Pershing Road in Kansas City. At the time of writing the exhibition is open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 17:00, Saturday 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 18:00, with the last tickets sold two hours before closing; admission was $26 for adults, $23 for over-65s and $15 for children aged 4 to 12. Check the Union Station website for current prices and booking before you travel.

What a touring show cannot move

The one thing no exhibition can pack into a crate is the route. The Wall’s course through the city, the depth of the death strip, the ghost stations and the surviving watchtowers only make sense on the ground – our interactive map shows what is still standing, and the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse preserves the last stretch of the border strip in its full depth.
